👀 Dear Enspirallers, Community, Friends, Family! ❤️
Our crew has made the difficult decision to cancel Summerfest this year.
Given the data we had, our crew felt the wider flow of things was asking us to close the fest down for the moment. Higher venue and food costs and non-local core crew has meant the financials are tricky without enough participants.
We knew this would be a building year with the fest moving to Auckland. What no one could have expected were the many complex political and economic situations all over the world that means many can’t make the trip in 2025.
With that in mind, we’re finalising details for a smaller gathering in the Auckland area in March, dates TBD. All Summerfest tickets already sold will be refunded.
We’re also forming the hosting crew for Enspiral Winterfest in Australia in the second part of 2025, and Enspiral Europe is gearing up for our next gathering in Germany in May 2025.

Kumara Node developed a financial agreement with the Enspiral Fundation. While Kūmara node has been functioning for a while, the node still doesn't manage its own membership fees. After some research, we determined the best approach was to be fiscally sponsored by Enspiral Foundation. For more context about Enspiral Nodes have a look into our handbook.

Penpot is an open source alternative to Figma a graphic design tool useful for web/interface design (and for collaboratively making social media content). They've been working on evolving open source funding models, so that the core tool remains open source yet the company can still earn money somehow. They've called their approach 'Open Nitrate', with an angle that everything is free except for features that enable you to control what others are doing (eg role management). Read more about the model here.
Wishing you a wonderful day!
